Dry January may mean that you are currently trying your hardest not to think about alcohol consumption, so naturally we thought this would be the perfect opportunity for us to post our “ultimate Barcelona bar guide”.

Here at Stories, we specialise in certain areas; beautiful branding, unique content creation, and in-depth marketing industry insight. What didn’t quite make the Instagram bio though, is our ability to find the best local watering holes, wherever we are on the globe. Trust us, we’ve had enough practice at it…

So here it goes – if you are planning a trip to Barcelona and looking for the best places to sit and sip, you should check definitely check these out.

(We apologise in advance for those of you participating in Dry January, who may feel personally victimised by this post).

Cecconis

You may have seen Cecconis feature over on our Instagram before, that’s because it’s one of our favourite hangouts. With marble tabletops, beautiful glassware, and vintage style decor, you can understand why. Plus, on Sundays, they offer all you can eat brunch with a welcome cocktail. I bet you can guess which day we tend to opt for, right?

Ocaña

Ocaña will always feel like a special place for us, as four years ago when we were in Barcelona for a holiday, this is the first place we went to straight from the plane. We like to sit here and re-live that, sipping our cappuccinos (with the addition of a bloody Mary these days) and watching the hustle and bustle of the square around us. Check this out in the day and pop inside for some snaps in their retro photobooth! They also have a hidden underground bar which comes alive at night – what more could you want from one place?

El Nacional

If you’re looking for culture – El Nacional is the place for you. It is the first restaurant in Barcelona with four main areas that you can sample different cuisines. This place is always thriving, especially on a weekend so be prepared for a short wait to get a table – it’s worth it though!

Bar Sauvage

Another one of our favourites located in El Born, mainly because of the atmosphere – there isn’t another bar quite like it. We usually pop in here for margaritas and a plate of their vegan tacos – which are probably the best we have ever had!

Grand Hotel Central

For you guys that know us, you’ll know we are a sucker for a rooftop bar, which is something that we really missed when we were over in Ibiza. Grand Hotel Central offers the most perfect views across the city and even has its own pool! We love to go here to watch the sunset with a glass (by glass we mean bottle), and on Sunday they even have live music – which is just magical!

The Edition

You didn’t think we were just going to stop at one rooftop bar, did you? This is one of our recent finds and probably one of our favourites (we are currently averaging one visit a week at the moment). The one thing that can make a rooftop bar better for us, is the addition of an extremely comfortable bed – the edition does both! There are other bars within the same hotel that are equally as special, just minus the views! They even have their very own underground club which is incredible!

Cotton House

Another recent discovery for us. They have conserved the original elements of the building – which are truly stunning. The walk up to the bar on the first floor is via the most incredible grand spiral staircase. We went for a business meeting and the food was equally as amazing. They also have their own terrace – which we imagine we will be spending a lot of our time on during the summer evenings!

Sucre Sucre

Just a stones throw from our apartment, we found this place whilst out hunting for shoot locations (and got a little bit thirsty – obviously!). In true Spanish style, the front of the bar actually opens up into a window seat – so on those warmer days you can sit and watch the world go by, whilst sipping your wine in the sunshine!

Mamaine

We actually stumbled across this place on our very first weekend in Barcelona and we were drawn to it by its Wes Anderson style interior. Any place that serves Moët in a tiny bathtub, with a side of popcorn, has our vote.

Farola

Another bar in the heart of Born that makes the best cocktails! Inside definitely has a vintage feel – with grand clocks and gold trimmings. They also have live music which is an amazing atmosphere.

So there it is, our whistle-stop tour of Barcelona’s finest establishments. If you guys have any recommendations that we haven’t tried before then please let us know – we are always looking for an excuse to venture to new places. Until then, we will continue to sample the local hot spots, for market research purposes…obviously…
